To start the Scarborough Spa express servie this summer, 6233 and 60009 moved from Crewe to York today. This gave the unusual sight of an A4 and a Duchess double heading!

Intercity Merry Makers (HRT) trip from Birmingham New Street to Preston via Midland mainline and Copy Pit (out) and Manchester / Stalybridge (return) Double headed by 31128 and 31454 double heading

Following 'Bustitution' from Sheffield to Derby, originally intended for Diesel haulage before engineering works stopped it, 6233 hauled a charter to London Kings Cross and back via Nottingham

Enhanced timetable, with 45305 and 35005 Canadian Pacific in various guises (35005 was 35030 Elder Dempster Line) including the final run from Leicester with full LCGB regalia as per 1967 charter

Travelled on the 101 to Grosmont for connection with 76079 to Whitby. S15 825 returned us to Pickering. G2 49395 and std 4s 80135 and 75029 also in steam

25th anniversary gala, with 73129 and visiting 71000 handling steam service, with diesels on second service. Narrow gauge line also running with steam, and 6233 and 6203 on display. A BBMF mk19 Spitfire performed a flypast

A daytrip to Scarborough in the rain behind 30777 Sir Lamiel. The steam ban being over, 47245 was parked in the sidings behind platform 11 out of the way. The crossover to Holbeck sidings seemed to be out of use as 777 shunted out of the NRM and ran North before entering the sidings via the avoiding line. To run into platform 5 the whole train set back onto the down slow before drawing forwards rather than the usual draw forwards

Visit on Sunday timetable, 20031 on diesel turn, Taff Vale 85 and Lanc and Yorks' 2F 'Ironclad' 957 (52044) on steam turns

45231 again to Running Victoria-Bristol via Sailisbury. 33202 on ECS and banking duties at Victoria

In the absense of 6201, 33202 took the train Kensington Olympia-Finsbury Park-Ely. From there 45231 hauled the train Ely-Lincoln-Ely with 33202 following on for shunting, before returning the train to CLapham Junction

The RTC ran a charter today from KX to Morpeth of all destinations, with steam, in the form of 6233 (originally to be 60800) from Doncaster and back as far as York. Running 15 minutes down the train emerged from the decoy lines south of Doncaster and pulled into platform 4. Word going round had it that some passengers had somehow missed their pick up point at Grantham and had been allowed to overtake the charter on a GNER service and an additional pick-up added at short notice! On fine form the Duchess headed off north without any slip, on a trip I wish I could have travelled on, however other commitments meant that all I could do was see 6233 off today

The weather changed from dark and wet in the morning to perfect sun in the afternoon

Waiting for a train back to York after a day at the NYMR, 4472 came through. This was the first week of trials when 4472 was running without smoke deflectors.

A trip on the afternoon Shakespeare express again. This time 4965 Rood Ashton Hall was at the business end.

The return trip runs back via the Chiltern mainline, paralleing the M40, giving the passing drivers a shock seeing a steam loco chasing them!

On the way back from Scarborough, we called in at Scarborough for tea, and just happened to be in time for Scotsman's arrival.

A family trip to Whitby when I pesuaded them to park at Grosmont and take the train! 76079 on good form, on stretch of line I haven't done before!

I combined a second trip on Scotsman with a night away in York, so was able to photograph the morning departure on the Wednesday as well as travelling on the evening trip, as well as photographing the afternoon arrival and evening departure on the Thurs. On the journey into York, I spotted the stock awaiting the first trip in the south sidings, with ....45407 on the front! A quick look in the works at the NRM on the thurs revealed their new 'scrap line' display featuring 4472 and 4771!!!!!! Green Arrows' 'broken bits' were arranged on the floor for assessment showing off nicely the Con rod and cylinder cover! A museum 'explainer' said the future is uncertain and a decision is still awaited on GA's fate. Scotman's latest ailment was as yet unknown as they were waiting for it to cool down before examination began (or so we are told.....)

After getting some cheap tickets for Scotsman's evening trips to Scarbrorough, I went along for this trip. Scotsman was just reversing off the afternoon train in the south sidings as I was arriving, and I was able to take some pics on teh long lense of 4472 running round the triangle between the station and the avoiding lines. The evening run showed didn't produce any outstanding running, but demonstrated 4472s ability to get 12 up to 60mph and maintain that with little difficulty.

I took a trip on the afternoon run on the first weekend of the season. (4)5960 Leander was hauling instead of the usual 4965 Rood Ashton Haul. This engine is fantastic!!!!! The run back was via Dorridge and we clocked 70 mph, this has to be the best value mainline trip going!

The infamous trip to Pwhelli that ended up in Blackpool! We did get some excellent running behind 406 on the WCML so wasn't a complete loss!

After the Weymouth trip, I managed to get a full trip with King Edward I and what a fantastic trip it was. An hour was lost on the return due to extra water being needed after the brakes had been dragging on the stock, and Maidenhead was almost missed on the way back. The only annoying thing on the day was the female cameraman who insisted on walking infront of everyone just as we were all taking pics of the loco running round! If that was you be more conciderate, and I hope I ruined your soundtrack!

A day out with the camera at York proved interesting. It was the 2nd day of Scotsman runs this year, as well as several inetersting formations coming through York. The VSOE and the Northern Belle were sat in adjacent platforms. How often does this happen?

One benefit of the Aberystwyth 'international music festival' was that I could go and watch these massive narrow gauge locos in my lunch hour. I bunked off rehersals one aftenoon to have a ride on the line. I'm at the festival this year as well, unfortunately it doesn't coincide with 76079 being there!
